Cabin w/ Frosts

The Frosts came up for a visit so we took them to Bear World.

There is something really fun about seeing a bear in your way as your driving down the road!
...or staring at you and walking right at you!
Tucker loved the petting area and still loves to chase the chickens around.

The kids of course were all about the rides!

As we were leaving the bear cubs were all out and I couldn't believe how much they picked on each other and wrestled and boxed!

First thing the next day Vic took the kids geocaching.  They all loved it.  Here are the prizes they found.
Sophie is on a visit from England and made fast friends with Tucker... notice our dried up lake!  I've never seen it this dry before!
We shot all sorts of toys, guns, bow and arrows, etc.
I went out with the kids by myself and sometimes it is so nice to just pause and enjoy the moment.
The next day we went up to the Big Springs area to hike around and it was beautiful so Sophie took some pictures and I tried out my new camera as well.
It was so hard to narrow it down to just a few!

We were treated with a moose along the way.  Just 2 nights prior we were out on the dock at dusk and a big moose with two babies came walking right by us.  Everyone froze so no one had a camera to take a picture, but we had a great weekend viewing lots of wild life!

August Happenings

The beginning of August was so windy that we hardly used our pool.  Instead we did walks and flew kites!  Here is Whitney with her kite.  It flew the best.
Tucker just wanted to run with his.
Tommy hated if it ever came down and Vic loved to fly them more than the kids did.
We did one final trip to the zoo for the summer and the bear was finally out.  We never see him.
We also lucked out that there was an animal encounter just started as we were leaving so we stayed for that and the kids really enjoyed learning about all of the animals.
We went up to the cabin a few times.  The first time Vic decided to make the whole weekend about finding geocaches. Here we are finding one moments before it started POURING rain on us.  We all got soaked!
And here we are a little later after we dried out.  One of the geocaches led us to Big Springs where the water is perfectly clear and beautiful.
 Tommy following the GPS.
We got to go on some really pretty trails.
The kids found the geocache!  Most of the ones we found, people had put garbage in so we cleared them out and put good stuff in there hoping that the next person will have a better experience ;)
The kids went to the library's bug night.  I so love the librarians and their efforts for the summer parties.
We went to the ARTitorium.  We were there all afternoon and saw 10 different families come and go all while our kids were entertained endlessly.  I finally had to drag them out of there at dinner time.

We went to the duck races... if you look super close you can see ducks about to fall over the water fall!  Tommy was sure our duck was going to win us a new truck, but surprise, surprise.. we did not!
One day I was out working in the front yard and I came in to find this.  It's one of the thousands of times I ask myself.... WHY?!
My mom left town at the end of June and the kids hardly saw her all summer.  She was in town for a day between her trips so we went to our health club to play with her an afternoon.  Here they are under the water tower... poor Tucker got creamed by a surprise waterfall right when I took the picture!!!
The kids love jumping off the edge of the pool and doing tricks in the air.
My favorite little buddies and I.

Tommy and Whitney started school.  Whitney was super excited to go to kindergarten and loves it as I fully expected her to.  She is a social butterfly and already knew Mrs. Jones from helping Tommy's class last year.
Tommy was so excited for his first day that he woke up way before his alarm and rocked out to the radio until it was time to come upstairs.  He is really excited to be at school all day and have two recesses.  He has grown up WAY too much this last summer.  He has lost his front teeth and given up almost all of his toys.  We still make sure we get lots of cuddles and loves from him though!
The last weekend of August Vic's work had an outing at Heise.  Everyone went golfing, but since we had little kids we went swimming and the kids loved it.  Tommy loved trying to see how high he could bounce off the diving board.

Here is Whitney's graceful toe touch. ;)
I showed the kids how to dive and Whitney excitedly said she was ready to try and jumped off the dive like this (hands above head, pointed).  She was so proud of herself for "diving"!
Tucker wouldn't jump off at the beginning of the day, but by the end he finally tried it and loved it.
Whitney went with me on the slide the first half of the day and then got brave enough to try it on her own and loved feeling big and brave.

After we had pizza with all of his coworkers we went to find a hike that we loved a couple of years ago.  We forgot where it was so we tried hiking on a game trail that had lots of branches sticking out all over.  It was more of an adventure hike with lots of scrapes, but the kids liked feeling in the wild!
