Tommy's Thomas The Train Party

Tommy is a bit obsessed with Thomas the train so he insisted on a Thomas the Train party.  I planned on having a "party" with one other family & some cake & ice cream, but Tommy kept getting so excited about his party that I couldn't let his magical 3 year old mind down!  Here is the invite I sent out:
Here is the "dining car" for all the kids to eat in.
Tommy was so excited about every little detail.  I made a silverware wrap for the forks, but he also wanted a Thomas sticker on each fork.  I had so much fun making all the different decorations with him.
Tommy greeted each of his guests at the door "Platform 3" to let them ride or push a train around the tracks.
Whenever Tommy gets too excited he turns into a bit of an emotional stinker.  He was going crazy fast around & around the track & whenever a friend was coming the other way he'd ram them & cry for them to get out of his way so unfortunately he had to have a time out at his own party!  It's funny his best friend wore a similar shirt at the party so since they have the same hair color they almost looked like twins.  I think if only this one friend came to the party Tommy would have been happy.  Tommy talks about him all the time.
After they rode the tracks then they had a train sandwich & munchies from the food train.

I tried to think of things that matched the label for each one like olives for the "coal car", pretzels for "log car", etc.
After dinner we started the games.  Tommy loved playing "Pin the nose on Thomas" all week long, but once again he was too excited to calm down & put a blind fold on at the party.
Whitney wasn't interested in the game, but thought it was funny to walk around with a blind fold on.
The next game was a ball toss into Thomas' mouth.  All the kids thought that was great.
Then they played inside him & fed him balls.  Tommy & Whitney think it is a fun little house & have spent a lot of time in it this past week.
The last game we played was "red light, green light".  I made cardboard train cars for all the kids to ride in & run around the tracks.... They all liked it, but once again Tommy got a little distressed at this part!
I didn't get a cute picture at the party of him in his train, but here he is a few days before the party getting excited about each train car that we made.  He got a lot of use out of these before the party even started.  This was also one of the kids party favors along with a stop light when they left.
Cake time!!  I debated back & forth if I should just buy a sheet cake or make one.  Tommy saw me looking at pictures & would get crazy excited every time he saw one similar to this so I finally broke down & made one.  Since I love decorating everything else you would think I'd enjoy cake decorating, but I hate it!    At least my mom was here to help & made it a bit more fun & go faster.
Here is Tommy with all his party friends.
Here is another party favor they got to decorate to take home: a rice crispy train car.  Tommy would stick one or two candies on & then eat them off.
Whitney on the other hand was very tedious & put her candies all on.  She seems so grown up some times!
The happy birthday boy with all his loot.
He's pretty much a cars & trains boy so he has been thrilled with all his new toys.
 Tommy's update at age 3:
Tommy is still a crazy hyper little boy that runs, runs, runs and never needs naps or sleep!  He usually wakes me up in the morning & when I go to bed at night I can still hear him stirring in his room.  I have no idea how he has so much energy!  In the last 2 months his vocabulary has finally exploded & it has been fun to see what he has to say.  I am the only one who understands everything he says & even then I still have to guess with some things, but he's getting words down better by the day.  I think that it has helped he is suddenly obsessed with reading books & having us read him books.  He is unusually good at puzzles for his age. He loves to count everything, but will only go to 10 if he's doing it by himself.  He loves coloring if it is with markers or paint & is very interested in the scissors, but still uses 2 hands to use them.  He likes to sing the A,B,C's.  His favorite song is "Wheels on the Bus".  We sing Whitney "I am a child of God" every night & if Tommy is near by he will be so cute & sweet to run in during that part & chime in.  He is obsessed with his buddy Whitney.  He loves to wrestle with her & tease her by taking her babies, but he also plays great with her, gives her lots of hugs & kisses, & is very protective of her.  He even gets mad at strangers in the store if they so much as say "hi" to her! Tommy is really tall for his age (over the 95% line), weighs 35 pounds, & already wears 4T clothes.  I thought he'd be fully potty trained by now, but he is at least REALLY close!  I try to only put him in a diaper at bed time & he still has to have a potty treat as a motivator.  I also happily threw away his booster seat for the table & long for the day when our last kid will be done with that as well!
As crazy as he is, he is also has a very tender heart & needs lots of hugs, especially from Daddy.  He is crushed if either Vic or I leave the house without giving him a hug & kiss at least 3 times before we leave.  My favorite cute things he says is: "I love you", "you're funny mama!",  "Whitney is so cuuuute", "What are you doing?" and "I missed you Dad".  He is continually making us smile with his genuinely happy smile & laugh.  He thinks the world evolves around him & since he is at a stage where everything is so magical & happy I am happy to let him think that for a while longer!  He is already tediously counting down the days until Santa comes.  He brings our family so much joy with his enthusiasm for life &  because of his excitement I can hardly wait for each holiday or party myself!

I was thrilled to be there for Tommy's 3rd Birthday Party. Nancy did an awesome job on the party! She is really creative and has such great ideas. I loved making the train cake with her.
